Every Nazi was just a human. They had loved ones, they cared about their kids and their country.
That's the true terror of them. They weren't demons, they weren't tainted by evil, they were
people who were pushed and when pushed too far some people want simple strength, simple answers,
and a direction to follow. Anything to make the uncertainty stop.
Give people like that an enemy, give them something to believe in that's simple, even if it isn't
true, and they'll commit horrible things in the name of honor, in the name of God, in the name of
nationalism, but most importantly, in the name of making things understandable again. So they
aren't scared anymore. They'll burn the world down to make it simpler, so they aren't afraid. I
haven't met a racist yet that isn't in some way afraid. So afraid that they'll come up with the
strongest bravado to overcome that fear.

We can't really compare "stupidity" when we don't have anything more intelligent than us.
Colloquially calling a species "stupid" has a discrepancy, and that discrepancy is that the only
sentient species that we have known ever to exist is ourselves. Unless you were speaking that
humans "were" stupid then we certainly we correct the mistakes of the past, or why we fight at
all.
