For better synchronization of the blur effect with the music, you might want to use (SoundChannel.position % Sound.length) to get where in the sound file you are in milliseconds. What you can do then is get milliseconds per beat (mspb) with (60*1000)/tempo. use (position % mspb) to get the position in the beat to use as an envelope for the blur effect, and use Math.round(position / mspb) to get which beat in the song you're on if you want to have it trigger on certain beats in a measure but not others. This method is a lot more reliable than hoping the frames actually stay in sync with the music.
