[_] (walk animation help) Anon 2738367 This is my first attempt at a walk animation. I reversed it at the end so that it could be studied a little easier, but that's for my own sake. I haven't given it arms, but that's not really my focus right now. I am just trying to improve my leg part of a walk animation. ANYWAY, what do you guys think? I feel like his lunge is a bit choppy.
>> [_] Anon 2738382 b-bump?
>> [_] Anon 2738384 >># i like it but could be a bit smoother
>> [_] Anon 2738386 >># The animation, or the actual lines I drew?
>> [_] Anon 2738393 >># the animation. there's one frame in particular where he's bringing his back leg up and it jumps abnormally far and then locks into place.
>> [_] Anon 2738394 I try to post a file, but it keeps on saying unsupported filetype. Any help?
>> [_] Anon 2738395 >># ..lol. I know that exact frame. I got lazy, and decided to use the shift key (makes a 180 angle) instead of drawing it properly, because I thought it wouldn't matter, but I am not the only one who noticed it. I think it's even more noticable when he goes backwards.
>> [_] Anon 2738396 for a test animation of walking, this is pretty good. You nailed it with the torso bobbing up and down. Not many novice animators realize how important that is to making movements feel real.
>> [_] Anon 2738400 >># Wow, thanks dude.
>> [_] Anon 2738508 >># Personally, the ankles need work. The achilles works like a spring; you step down and move your leg forward, stretching the achilles. When you release to move forward, the ankle pops up. There isn't enough walking to really see what you're going for, but it looks like the majority of the foot is a springboard pivoting around the toes. Something else that may be useful to know is that humans have two ways of walking. "heel-to-toe" is the way we walk when wearing shoes, I assume because of the added height. But when barefoot, we naturally walk flatfooted, hitting the ground with the entirety of the foot all at once. If you're trying to get good at walking, I'd recommend recording yourself, so that you have a model doing exactly as you want.
>> [_] Anon 2738515 https://empaht.files.wordpress.com/2011/ 02/walkreference1.png I'd added a link to the Animator's Survival Kit. It has a lot of references and guides to figuring out motion. http://www.indusvalley.edu.pk/library/e% 20books/The%20animator%27s%20survival%20k it.pdf This helped me when I used to do Flash.
