This doesn't quite loop properly, and the little pause is driving me nuts.

It loops fine for me.
The problem is on your end.
It's possibly your version of flash.
Zone Archive states the following:
>WARNING
>the latest version of Flash Player (20.0.0.267) breaks a lot of the flash animtions on this
site. Please avoid upgrading to it or view the swfs in a 3rd party program until Adobe fix it.
>The previous version (20.0.0.235) should still work fine.

Huh. I'm on (11.2.202.616). Given it's fairly new, maybe it's affected by the same bug too?
Anyway, breaking flashes or not, I would highly advise against running an older version of Flash,
even temporally. Flash is a clusterfuck of buried remote execution vulnerabilities, and the
moment they become known people exploit the shit out of them. You WILL get your ass handed to you
unless you either update or uninstall Flash.

You should try something between 20 and 12.
I have version 17 and it runs quite swell
