they were usually not experienced pilots, most right out of training and all volunteers. The
experienced pilots who did it would usually do so after their aircraft had little chance of
returning to their carrier and this started well before the official kamikaze tactics began.

or battleships and few of the many destroyers hit actually sank ..
they were more of a terror weapon than effective means of reducing the fleet headed toward japan

the ones that got sunk were purpose built, not converted civilian ships

damaging over 300 ships did still slow the allies down but there was no possible way they could
have ever actually stopped the US from decimating their entire navy and airforce at that point,
the differences in numbers and quality was just too great for them to even have a fraction of a
percent to stop them.
