Mis-reads of the magnetic tape.
Usually caused by:
VHS player dying / needing cleaned.
VHS cassettes magnetic strips failing.
Usually the former, if some dust got in.
Latter is mainly after several years, the fields get so weak after reading from them so much, or
sitting in a room where the temperature changes frequently.
