I had a great little experience at the local shops. There was a small line (like 6-7 people)
waiting in the express checkout area, and I was in it with a single loaf of bread. The self
checkout spot, with 9 terminals in it was empty.
One of the checkout people called out to us that the self checkouts were empty and the old lady
in front of me says "We know", and nobody moves out of the express line.
I know they work most of the time, but fuck those things man. They annoy the shit out of me. I'd
rather stand in line.

the problem isn't 100% the self checkouts its that people are stupid. I have worked retail for
15+ years and I have almost no problems with them, it is honestly faster for me to use one then
wait for some under paid and over worked employee to do it for me.

in my local tesco we have these and the only problem I have is that the self checkout cash
registers have this little platform beside them where you HAVE TO put the products on after
checking it
well there's nothing wrong with it except when you buy something too light for it to register

A huge problem with self checkout lanes is that the systems/software/hardware they throw into
those things are a product of shitty development. The ones i interact with whenever i get my
groceries are awesome. They only screw up when I screw up. I only have to interact with a person
when the system has to deal with something that hasn't been accounted for in the code (like
asking for my points card, when i say no but forget that i do have it, remember and try and
re-enter it in it goes "error, please wait for an attendant", OR when i have an item that's on
clearance with a 50% off sticker on it, i need to have the attendant mark it down).
Also: stealing? loooool, america. Not saying people don't steal elsewhere but the only thing i
have 'stolen' are plastic bags when I've forgotten to bring my reusable bags. OR if I couldn't
find the Product code and just went with the cheaper option. AGAIN these are only bad because the
Design is bad. Fixing the design would make them awesome.

I go to Kroger's self checkout lanes and never have a problem. Although it makes the same sounds
the ones in Maddox's videos, I am inclined to believe the software is better (or the store set it
up properly, which is more likely the case).
