He's still animating things so I think he either got tired of pony stuff or underestimated the amount of work required for it. Tiarawhy (programmer/writer) and R!P (animator) made Ponk Quest. Both of them were splitting the money from a single Patreon account at first but a few weeks ago they separated. I don't know what happened but it certainly doomed the game.
