I've seen this before, and I know some dude comes out at the end to say "If this shit don't stop,
hip-hop is dead".
I don't understand. What is their message? No one besides him is making a video of two men in
black-face singing "eat dat watermelon". I guess I just don't understand the symbolism or
whatever message he is trying to articulate.

It's him saying if hip-hop keeps going the way it's currently going, it will become something
like this video.

What way is he saying it's going? I understand that this video is a little dated, but does he
mean it was becoming too gimmicky? Like, too niggerish?

NAS & Nick Cannon have a lot to say about the state of rap, claiming that what was once a form of
empowerment is now a disenfranchised form of entertainment controlled by the corporate world.
They did this by creating a rap called “Eat Dat Watermelon,” which is supposed to be the future
manifestation of rap and hip-hop if it continues to be something that caters to the desires of
corporations and mainstream media.

That it's not just being niggerish it's becoming a state of rap being nothing more than a white
contrived controled media. Where the promotion is to be a retarded criminal fuck instead of a
functioning member of society. AKA. Sub human. instead of a black person.

Thank you, both. This helped a bit. It's nice to know that there are those that still take their
art form seriously and see the dangers of a controlling power over something cherished or
revered. Be it hip-hop or any other establishment or form of entertainment.
