For the most part, his flashes are made up of short loops and/or multiple loops with minor
changes in things like facial expressions. The framing changes and color swapping draws more
interest than just a simple single shot that just runs through each loop.
Our eyes/visual cortex are designed to be "interested" in changes, and he plays to this (as does
most video). An interesting test that most film 101 classes do is to watch 5 minutes of a movie,
and count the number of cuts (or other transitions), camera moves, focus/f-stop/exposure changes,
etc, to realize how much this happens without us noticing.
I think it just feels more jarring do to the way he does it, going for the energetic/frenetic
feel...
