I remember some /k/ threads with a guy who worked as a nuclear weapons adviser or something, and
global nuclear policy can generally be summed up as:
Every big power has them as big dicks to wave around and prove that they're big powers, but
nobody will ever use them for threat of retaliation and fear of long-lasting consequences. Even
if the leader of a country threatens to use nukes, there's a shitload of people behind the scenes
dedicated solely to the management of nuclear weaponry that will never let them be fired under
any circumstances that aren't "the world's fucked anyway."
If Donald Trump issues an executive order to fire nukes the day he enters office, nothing will
happen unless he has a damn good reason to believe that there's ten more headed our way.
But damn, if anybody's gonna do something stupid with them, it's North Korea.

I legitimately hope they do. People seem to forget we have the world's most advanced NMD program.
Those ICBMs wouldn't ever make it remotely close to landfall. Then we'd have the full go ahead to
wipe the Norks out and be done with them.
