He fought for what he believed to be just and took it too far.
And really, it is human nature to do so because of a few factors, 'emotions' being one of them.
Very few individuals have ever been close to fully rejecting the temptation of tyranny, and most
just never get the power so they don't even know what it's like.
In short:
Everyone has a price for tyranny.
The currency is power.
Some people have very very high prices (think gandhi) and in my opinion those that no longer have
a price transcend this plane of existence. Because they are then unicorns and they go to where
the other unicorns are.

In fairness though he's been turned into a boogeyman for the purposes of societal agendas.
Not saying he didn't make some mistakes, do some evil things or that his way of doing things was
ideal but in historical terms it is very strange the way we uniquely demonize him and his
"people" etc...
I think its important to put aside preconceived notions of Hitler and those German societies if
you're to truly judge them fairly on any level.
