This isn't ghostbusters where the studio is going out of their way to insult the original fanbase
and try to get a whole new demographic as their market.

Also it's not Sony who's in charge.

It will make money, not as much as other star wars movies. But you'd be retarded to think it will
  be a flop.

  >IT'S PROGRESSIVE CUZ THERE'S A GIRL!
  >MOVIES WITH GIRLS IN THEM ARE BAD!
  >THEREFORE IT WILL FLOP!
  Lol. Nah.

Is it going to do Force Awakens numbers? No way in hell.
But it will probably top Suicide Squad, which was absolute trash and still made 750 million.

Ghostbusters was a flop because they were banking on it doing half a million on name alone.
However, the only people who saw it were Paul Feig fans because it had zero appeal to anyone but
them, which is why it did similar numbers to Bridesmaids.

Now Star Wars is the biggest cinematic franchise in history, and the budget for Rogue One isn't
that high for a blockbuster film. Mix that in with low competition and it's pretty much
guaranteed to do 500 million at the least.

This guy might just be the biggest whiny baby on the planet.

Firstly, I don't believe Sony went out of their way to alienate the demographic who probably
would've turned out in the highest numbers if it was executed well, but I have to say, the ethos
that the studios went into making both films is similar, where they differed is execution.

They both want to get "a new generation of fans" to become enamored with the series so that they
can maximize profits with all the tassels that come with a big-budget film like licensing and
merchandising. What Sony did is they said "Lets gender-reverse all the main roles in the film and
throw a AAA budget on it and it'll work out" where Disney is saying "Lets give them what they're
used to and change it just enough to appeal to as many people as possible, then throw a AAA
budget on it" and obviously the strategy of rehashing the same old plot-lines in a shiny new
format with tweaks has worked out.

I believe Rogue One will be a commercial and most likely a critical success. That being said, I,
many people I know who are avid fans of the trilogies and the Extended Universe, as well as a
vocal minority disliked The Force Awakens because we felt it was a bad movie and won't be
patronizing Rogue One. I won't go as far as pulling a "no true Scotsman" but you know the type of
people who do and don't like the new SW movies.
