Lurk enough and you'll see someone say /f/ is /f/orgotten.
many times when holiday themes and april fools pranks are added to 4chan /f/ is neglected.

I have nothing more than speculation.
flash is being discontinued and with it likely browser support for such things.
I know people use standalone flash players but how would this effect the already dismal userbase
of /f/ and would 4chan even continue to support swf?
another thing to consider, how much new content is even created anymore?
lastly, hiroshima likely wants to make money and /f/ isn't exactly bringing in the users.

Anyway I wanted to say that you should cite a specific source next time. Adobe is not dropping
support of flash anytime soon, but they are encouraging other standards. Flash has been around 21
years and it will take a very long time for them to totally remove support.

>Moving forward, Adobe is committed to working with industry partners, as we have with Microsoft
and Google, to help ensure the ongoing compatibility and security of Flash content. In that
spirit, today we are announcing that we are working together with Facebook to help ensure Flash
gaming content on Facebook continues to run reliably and securely. As part of this cooperation,
Facebook will report security information that helps Adobe improve the Flash Player.

Flash has a huge back catalogue and is still widely used to animate and make games,
Flash wrappers for appstores will continue to exist.
As for the plugin Apple had a jihad against flash and Google has its own android app store so
there's a reason mobile phone companies are such a dick about flash.
Why pay for a game you can get for free online?
the Linux plugin was recently resurrected and it will be developed for windows until the bitter
end
https://wiki.winehq.org/ARM
so theres that
Moore's law prophecies we will be able to run old flash plugins with an emulator so it will
always be useable

I-I will lurk harder this year, I p-promise

and I'm sure many other boards are as well
>how much new content is even created anymore?
as much as /wsg/ and /webm/
or just look at http://swfchan.com/new.shtml
now a lot of those flashes are not dircetly from 4chan but there are a lot of new flashes posted
on daily basis
many of them are simple loops but I like loops more than some cancerous youtuberips
>hiroshima likely wants to make money and /f/ isn't exactly bringing in the users.
if chinamoot would want to bring more people to 4chan through /f/, he would put a goddamn mod in
here long ago so this board would get some standarts and force people to make decent flashes made
in an actual flash
I treat /f/ as a haven, and influx of yet another batch of newfags without adding mods will just
shit this place more than it already is

The swf format has some characteristics that make it desirable.
vector graphics, programability and self contained and platform independant.
Just disable hyperlinks and you seal up the security risk.
Unity, java and html5 cant compete with it as they have bigger security risks and aren't always
self contained. plus they cant be copied and pasted as easily
>>a rare few flashes aren't self contained but its mostly menus and layout thingy's

Last I heard, Adobe Animate can export in HTML5, though I don't know if those files keep the same
properties as .swf files. Still, seems like Adobe's at least trying, even if it's only
halfhearted. I just don't want to see loops go. .swf files really are the best format for those
things.

flash, can never die, it can only be forgotten.
but I remember.

/f/ is such a casual, quiet little place at this point. It appeals to a smaller userbase but it's
got it's own community as a result. Flash itself might die out for most people but it'll likely
be immortalized through /f/, swfchan, and other flash boards. I'm sure content creators will
still continue to pump out flash here and there and newfags will help too. It'll take some time
for flash to die out completely.
