There is no point in spending huge amounts of funds for good resources for games (i.e photo realistic textures) if a significant portion of your market won't be able to use them. Instead devs use resources from 2006-2010 on old engines so that your playstation/xbox can run games. In under a years time a $450 PC will shit all over a $450 console you bought late last year, which will still be $450 until they bring out the next gen. and in a few more years a $450 PC will be as powerful as an $800 one now. So now instead of following the constant improvement of computing power, devs are stuck with waiting 6 years before they can upgrade their game resources.
