The show pretty much has the animation budget that the original Fs/N series was getting. prisma illya is an alternative universe (different past events is a whole part of the series, but this downright changes some things) that in effect causes Illyasviel von Einzbern who is the star to be an outright magical girl, and hunt down the heros of the series who are in a mindless card form. It does it very well but at the same time spends a number of episodes doing what mahou shoujo loli girl series do. It is very entertaining filler inbetween the main series, but if I had to write down what actually happened in the first 2 seasons, it would be a short list.
