  Most popular music is common time (4:4) and roughly 120 bpm (to make mash-ups like this the
  tracks are typically sped/slowed to match one another) and use similar (or identical) chords (eg,
  basso classico). Familiarity is genuinely enjoyable and it has its place in music. You do see
  mainstream music occasionally go for 3:4 (like a waltz) or use unusual keys.

  Personally, I'm usually much more disappointed in lyrical content than anything else. I wish
  instrumental music were more popular for that reason.
