In the waning era of piracy, the navies of the English, the French, Spanish and Dutch all stood at their height, the colonial force that enslaved entire nations. And they took to others plundering their rightful gold very poorly indeed. The British put a bounty on Cutter for illegal taxation. Cutter sent back to the crown a bounty hunter's head in a box with the official papers nailed to it, along with a note explaining the legitimacy of his office. The Dutch put a bounty up for him stealing and selling slaves meant for Boston. Cutter sent the figurehead of a Dutch mercenary ship back to their crown, also with a note explaining the legitimacy of his office. But hark, here is where the tale grows true. Boston and other provinces in the area grew desperate, so they tacked up signs in the bay warning merchants and traders to turn back, and head further north to sell their wares. Turn back. The Devil's Reach is here. Turn back. Cutter found out about this and was elated, he immediately adopted the signs as a token of fortune and put even more up. He owned these people. Finally the British were forced to acknowledge the embarrassing ordeal, and take military action against him, being under pressure from the Dutch, French, Spanish, and not to mention some VERY wealthy trading nobles. They sent out a detail of five full sized warships, an overwhelming display of might. Thinking no mere pirate could possibly ever defeat a detail as this, they sailed into the bay at the dead of night, hoping to catch the Devil's Reach off guard. >> [_] Anonymous 05/11/17(Thu)18:35:00 No.3243370 >>3243368 Instead it is they who were ambushed. Somehow, five ships of the line were laid asunder and scuttled by Cutter and his merciless band. As the song goes, the ship was shattered but still floating, he and his crew sailed it onto the nearest beach, nailed yet another sign to it, warning those that dared, that this was the Devil's Reach's territory. Along with the sign was another note written by Cutter explaining that his days of Piracy were over, and that if he was perused, he would return with a terrible vengeance. And there he vanished to the annals of history. |
