The issue I have is when any board goes over a certain number of users, quality drops dramatically. I'm fully in favour of regular board splits to keep that user count down. Doesn't matter what site it is, it is 100% the same all the time, quality drops off sharply as soon as it gets popular. Fast boards are anti-quality. People rush content because they expect threads to die quickly, and it ends up applying to everything else, so overall post quality also drops. Everything else is shitposts and copypasta. Evidence being that any time the DNS shit itself over the years, really fast boards were fun again when less than half the people could even reach the site. Even /b/ became fun again when the DNS shit itself around 2011-12 I think it was. Some ISP was diddling the DNS records. This is the only reason some of those generals are any fun, because ACTUAL good content comes from them because there is a high degree of certainty in the thread existing either now or as a new thread in the very near future. Shy posters who create content but don't want to create threads then don't go silent or give up. Obvious exception being the competitive generals such as shitty e-sports games, battlestation threads and the like. Shits all attention-whoring of the Bad Kind. >> [_] Anonymous 08/14/17(Mon)06:58:15 No.3272400 >>3272399 While I don't disagree with your main points, I do think culture today is "worse". I don't mean that the old culture was better in a general way, old and new memes, fads, etc are almost equally dumb, but in earlier days I felt there was a sense of camaraderie between posters. Even when people mocked dumb newfag mistakes it usually felt like it was mostly in good fun. These days on a lot of boards it feels like everyone is at each other's throats and seem to genuinely hate's each other's guts. Everything is "serus bznuss" all the time, or at least it feels that way. >> [_] Anonymous 08/14/17(Mon)07:03:59 No.3272401 >>3272400 Oh yeah that definitely exists sadly. I do agree on that part. Where most people early on came for the anime and also discussion of shared interests, large numbers come here completely for the off-topic discussion boards and even actively hate anime. This site is filled with so many sub-communities that all hate each other. But again, that's also why I like the concept of generals, it keeps people together and generally limits shitposting. It seems about the only realistic solution beyond mass-banning / mass-board splits. (Japanese Videogames + Western Video Games, etc.) It already happened with /d/ and /aco/. (which does make sense, we have /a/ and /co/) I just wish we got a fucking /va/ for adult videogames instead of all this bullshit tippy-toeing around the rules when posting in /vg/. >> [_] Anonymous 08/14/17(Mon)07:05:41 No.3272402 what to do desu >> [_] Anonymous 08/14/17(Mon)07:07:16 No.3272404 >>3272402 cake on head >> [_] Anonymous 08/14/17(Mon)07:15:21 No.3272405 >>3272404 In the year 1913? >> [_] Anonymous 08/14/17(Mon)08:04:57 No.3272413 >>3272401 >/va/ for adult videogames there are like 5 generals for that let me see if I still remember them >>>/h/hgg/ >>>/d/dgg/ >>>/vg/hgg/ >>>/vg/hgg2d/ >>>/aco/weg/ >>>/aco/stg/ there are probably even more scattered throughout the boards now do they deserve their own board? God that was amazing to watch. I wish things like that were more prevalent. Would make 4chan as a whole feel more like a community like the old days rather than just an amalgamation of topics. Love the 4cc for that reason. >> [_] Anonymous 08/14/17(Mon)10:18:00 No.3272429 >>3272382 But anon, that frog was a big meme even then. >> [_] Anonymous 08/14/17(Mon)10:24:11 No.3272431 As someone who first started visiting 4chin regularly in late 2014. /f/ Is by far my favourite board. Sometimes I go on /v/ if I'm on my phone and I just want to distract myself but yah it's mostly shit, and I like VTMB & FNV. /f/ Is just a nice cozy board where like, in my head I imagine, only like 50 unique people visit. Sure most of it is just re-posts but there are in-jokes and a whole separate board culture here that I think is stronger than most other boards. Anyway TL:DR; I'm a newfag, I love you /f/riends, and every other board is smelly and gay |
