humans are a dead end consumer for apple trees.
it's a waste of apples to give any to children.
birds, squirrels, raccoons carry the seeds to forests and shrubs where a tree might actually grow.

Nobody takes seeds from wild trees anymore.
It would take years to cultivate useful trees out of that. It wouldn't be profitable.
