This is precisely the problem, with '2D waifus', you are introduced to a artificial fictional
construct, which is usually designed to be physically attractive and likeable as a character so
you become a fan and buy the product/merch. Also, you never interact with the character, you
merely watch as an omniscient entity
In real life, attractiveness is only skin-deep, to form an opinion of a person and hence gain a
relationship you have to observe omnisciently (and probably get branded a creep) or interact with
them to understand personality. Low self-confidence is a major barrier here
