My thoughts were they would realize how they alienated such a huge portion of the population, but
their response was more "no its most of the country who is out of touch".
The silent majority spoke, more out of protest than anything else, and they doubled down. Which
bodes ill for everybody involved really.

both parties are just flipsides of the coin of "protect those who pay us". both the american
right and the american left see themselves as the last bastion against totalitarianism, or some
sort of regime of evil. the left views the modern right as nazis and corporate dogs; the right
view the left as social authoritarians and corporate dogs. the only truth is that both parties
are under the control of the powerful.
identity politics -- whether it be of the SJW "muh whitey" variety or the alt-right "white people
are under attack" variety -- are a distraction.
