It's a "pretty generic classic" in that regard.
Relative good story-line, with enjoyable characters, and the progress is well-executed,
but
then
came the ending and the continuation, which went with the "pretty generic" reality defying
bullshits, and incredible forces of nature that hop dimensions/timelines.
Seriously tho', so many old animes went with the alternative timelines, or past timeline changes,
or any other form of dimension/time-hopping that its ridiculous and it kinda makes an entire
series shit, in my opinion.
Also remind me why did I just write this wall of text to 2 words, ugh, I could be doing something
productive...
Anyway, I have to agree, the first season/original is a good anime.

hey im haveing some trouble with my flash player, used to be i could just click the .swf file and
it would open, now i have to manualy drag it into the flash projector box
