I actually think it's due to the "girl nextdoor"-effect. A lot of men feel a lot more attracted
to a "pretty girl but with some flaws" than a super model or beauty icon.
This game kind of capitalizes on that. The proportions are about right(excluding the dutchess)
and none of the characters feel particularly distant.

I've asked this exact same question concerning this exact series before. Sometimes I get reminded
