I don't know about "tracing" - it would actually be messier to just trace something into your drawing than to draw it with a reference, so I doubt he did that. But Pinoy is disappointing to me. All of his characters have looked the same from the moment he started animating, I want to say seven years ago? - just carbon copies. Because he refuses to use more than one tint for shadows, everything looks flat and boring. He insists on using voice acting, despite the fact that it has *never* sounded good. The backgrounds, if they even exist at all, are afterthoughts. I like Derpixon so much better. Maybe some of Derp's early animations were incredibly rough, but at least Derp's consistently been willing to try new things and improve.
