  a gun is useless if you don't use it in time when someone is running towards you with a melee
  weapon. you can't expect someone to stop his advancement towards you if he sees you reaching for

  to be honest you thinking that using a gun in this situation counts as "over violence" goes to
  show how the world is today. don't expect everybody thinking striking him with your car is fair

  I'd say the best option would be to exit the vehicle ASAP and run away.
  I don't think the guy was going to actually attack them, but he was smashing the windows in,
  there's a high chance of the passengers getting hit with glass, or his weapon. Getting out is
  dangerous, but it's dangerous either way, probably better to take your chances and just get as
  far away as possible instead of staying trapped in the car and trapped in traffic.
  Ideally if you had a weapon and could produce it fast enough, it would work IF it actually deters
  him. I wouldn't want to take the chance in 2019 and shoot him on video, I'd rather just run away
  and be safe, and not potentially ruin my life.

  The shame is that's what people really think.
  The absolute best course of option prioritises your safety, and the secondary priority is not
  getting screwed in the long run by having a court case for murder.
  It's a really dynamic situation though, looked lik there was someone in the passenger's seat.
  Were there also passengers in the back? If so, was this a family and those were the kids? In
  which case the parents should prioritise protecting their kids, which may lead to confronting the
  attacker. I don't know if pulling out a gun and firing it in close proximity to your children is
  a great idea, or if I'd trust someone to do that despite training, as training can only prepare
  you so well.
  Maybe the best course of action was to drive away puy pulling off the road over the curb, there
  looked like enough space and it'd give you the distance you need to be safe.

  But if it was just the driver and adult passenger, and driving away off the curb wasn't an
  option, I'd just get out of the car and hightail it out of there. It is absolutely retarded to
  try and confront a seemingly insane person who's attacking your car. Insurance will pay for
  whatever damage comes to your car, so it's not worth risking physical injury to protect that, at
  all. A weapon as a personal defense item should be used as a last resort to ensure your safety.
  If there was no escape, then by all means, do whatever you have to to defend yourself, but it
  clearly looked like there are much better options than trying to confront him.
