Does something similar exist for other genres?

I don't know.

Well, I learned a lot more by browsing thru this than any music class or every music
know-it-all's lecture about everything you listen to sucks.
So where's vaporwave fit in this little musical family tree?

You like Huey Lewis and the News?
Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think
they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear,
crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big
boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical
sense of humor.
In '87, Huey released this; Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed
masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the
lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the
importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.

Something like HTTrack might work. It seems like that flash has a bunch of slave files for every
musical genre though. I've been trying to extract it as well.
Since I clicked on that flash this morning, I've been on musical journey that doesn't have an end
in sight. You made my day interesting OP. Thanks.

If the two of you really want the clips, I have a tool that can extract them. They're only 11 kHz
though. You'd be better off using youtube-dl -x to extract the full tracks from YouTube.

My guess, it's a bridge between 80s synthpop and Ambient, possibly growing out of the increasing
nostalgia for the 80s and early 90s that people started feeling during the 2000s. In a year or
two you'll see "only 2000s kids will remember" being thrown around more frequently.

Vaporwave is an offshoot of the other "-wave"s built around heavy use of slowed-down samples.
It's basically 80s pop on codeine.
