Google voice recognition and subtitle generation is still in its infancy. It works reasonably
well on clearly spoken English without dialect, but it's worthless for most other languages.
Still, if you compare it to the state it was in 5 years ago there have been immense strides.
However, if there are already subtitles in a given language, the Google machine translators can
translate them to English almost seamlessly. It's very useful for watching videos that only have
native closed captioning, like many Japanese videos, for instance. Especially since Google axed
user generated closed captioning on Youtube.

and voice recognition comes with the wonderful benefit of direct censorship! or even better:
indirect censorship, where content creators avoid words like nazi or corona and put annoying
beeps over curse words. and people just avoid talking about uncomfortable subjects altogether!
alphabet (who owns google who owns youtube) has really brought back 70s television to the
internet and we couldn't be happier.
