I'm glad to have known this part of internet history.

people act like /f/'s gonna disappear. there needs to be a PSA made about this.

  >is /f/ gonna die?
NO. /f/ is an upload board and there happens to be an embed feature. In 2021, the embed button
will stop working in most browsers.

  >are the swfs on my computer going to be unplayable?
NO. Some people have been saying that the standalone projector has a kill switch that will make
swfs unplayable. That's because people call everything related to Flash "Flash" and it can be
confusing. The only thing that has a kill switch is the Adobe Flash Player in your browser.

  >but hiro is such a jew, is he going to delete the board?
See success.swf. The mods don't seem interested in doing that.

even if the standalone had a killswitch it shouldn't affect versions made before adobe announced
  flash was kill, right?

  >>3443967
No. But Windows is forcibly removing Flash Player in future updates. I'm 99% sure they mean just
the actual browser Flash Player and not the projectors, but the terms for these things are so
vaguely used I can't be be totally certain.

adobe is still making flash but not the browser extension. the player will live because flash

I hope you're right and that the people at Adobe are just God-awful at writing. Because
"Flash-based content will be blocked from running in Adobe Flash Player after the EOL Date"
clearly means the projector will stop working no matter how many times I read it.

  >>3443969
Where'd you read that Windows will force-remove flash anyway?

  >>3443990
I'm pretty sure you're mixing things up. Here's what I think will happen:

  1. They will still develop Adobe Animate (previously called Adobe Flash Professional) because
animators still use it. However they will remove the ability to export swf files, you'll only be
  able to export to movies.
  2. If they do keep swf export it will likely be limited because I think the format can be
imported into Adobe After Effects? So they might keep it around but there will be no MovieClips
or AS in the swf file.
  3. ActionScript 3 will still be developed because it's used in Adobe AIR.

Still having trouble understanding why they just give up on flash like this instead of fixing it
or sandboxing the hell out of it. As in: No internet connection at all, no file access at all, no
loading of any external files at all, no flash cookies (could make an interface for manual text
  import/export).

  >This update removes Adobe Flash Player that is installed on any of the Windows operating systems

  uninstalled.

  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4577586/update-for-removal-of-adobe-flash-player

Right now it's optional but sooner or later it'll quietly be included in a big Windows update.
Why they're trying to erase Flash so permanently is beyond me.

I'm not sure whether the Flash Projector is itself a little "Flash Player" bundled up in an
executable, or if its name it literal and it just "projects" files while using the Flash Player
already installed on your computer, the one which you would see in your control panel. If the
  latter then that's very bad.

  >After this update has been applied, this update cannot be uninstalled.
I assume it means you won't be able to restore flash by undoing the update, because the "update"
is just an uninstall of flash and Microsoft won't provide re-installation of flash.

I don't think the update will create some kind of background service that constantly scans your
system and prevents you from manually reinstalling flash ever again.

Also I assume exe projectors is NOT counted as the "flash player" but rather they are just
talking about the plugin used by browsers or other programs. Even though the projector is
  literally titled "adobe flash player".

Sigh, all these assumptions... I wish Adobe and Microsoft were just clear about all this instead
of speaking in terms open to interpretation.

Even if that happened, there's always VMs. Flash happily runs in old copies of XP and there's no
way for anyone to stop it from doing so.

  >They will still develop Adobe Animate (previously called Adobe Flash Professional) because
animators still use it. However they will remove the ability to export swf files
That's already been done a while ago, as was the ability to encode video in ON2VP6 codec (FLV) in
recent versions of Media Encoder. If you want to do this, you need to go back to CS6 to make FLV
clips and to export SWF files.

>> [_] Anonymous 10/30/20(Fri)21:30:12 No.3444044

  >>3444034
I'm fairly certain each projector is independent of any external dependencies. I have multiple
versions of the projector, and newer swf files won't run in the older versions. There's also a
few cases where an old swf won't run in a newer projector.

It wouldn't make much sense for the operating system to have DLLs for each version of Flash. The
design of the format is intrinsicly backwards compatible.

>> [_] Anonymous 10/30/20(Fri)21:52:01 No.3444047

I'm pretty sure that 'flash player' refers to the browser plugin specifically, and not the
  projector.
