  So you should play Special edition. Stupid name of the edition, they should have called it
  remastered or ultimate. However I wouldn't be surprised if they intentionally saved "ultimate"
  for yet another release in 5 years.

  Incidentally I'm playing Special edition right now, played Skyrim last time when it was new in
  2011 but never actually finished it. All of a sudden I got the urge to play it again this summer
  so I pirated the Special edition.

  Have very little modding because I can't be bothered, just a light weight ENB and particle patch
  + revamped exterior fog + reskin of locks to make it easier to see where the lockpicks broke off.
  The special edition looks OK without heavy graphical mods.

  I cheat with three console commands though, infinite carry weight and I run 25% faster and jump
  30% higher.

  Didn't install the well-recommended community patch because it requires a newer version than I
  could get my hands on in a torrent. It's possible but not with a scene release.

  Gotta say Skyrim is one hell of a well put together game world, though I think they should have
  made NPC guards make less of the damage they do against dragons. Also never appreciated the 1
  billion lootable containers that just contains 4 potatoes or 3 carrots. Witcher 3 also had that
  problem. Too many containers that just waste your time and make the game feel less epic, with
  infinite carry weight you can at least just "loot all" without caring.

  Good luck with modding SLE heavily, though if I could say, SSE from the base game crashes less
  than any SLE modded or not. It doesn't have as many mods of course
