>>3450000 (a small poem)
When I see this
When I hear it
It takes me back in time
To a place of wonder
To a time of exploration
To a sense of adventure
To feel the echos
Of the future
That never became the past
~
Those were the days, no social media, no spyware, no annoying pop-ups, no bullshit license to spy
on you, gaming graphics. It was pure, as pure as it could get once you owned it. It didn't matter
that it sucked enough power to be a space heater, or that the processing power was slightly more
than today's graphing calculators, or that it even ran over a serial port. What mattered is, you
could do something - potentially a lot of things - and that it came down to your will to make,
your drive to create, your sense of wonder, pure potential made manifest by sheer will and
creativity.
I miss those days. Days that many of you will never know, because it was literally before your
time. I silently weep for you, because it should have been your future and yours to have. Instead
we opted for Facebook, Pornhub, PC-correct games driven by eye candy graphics, advertisements
everywhere, spying on your habits everywhere, spying on your computer everywhere, always the
consumer, never the creator.
My parent's generation never really saw the potential in it; they are now aging and passing away,
long since out of that environment. My own generation is just cresting from late 40's to 50's
now, and we were too few to make any impact.
I leave this lifeline of history to the past for all of you, my fellow anons, that you may yet
reclaim your birthright - the same one that was stolen from me, and ultimately everyone here.
Maybe one of you will be curious to actually look back and see what was lost, before dismissing
all of it.
I've always said /g/ has no sense of history, and it's still true to this day. Control history
and you control the future; control the future and you control the present.
Seek your real history.
