How can I view flashes in /f/ after the sunset in December? I have an external flash player but I
would still like to view them on /f/.

Marked for deletion (old).

you'd need a browser that still supports NSAPI and you'd need an old version of the flash plugin

at some time Adobe rigged the plugin to not work after 2020 even if your browser still supports
NSAPI, which i think is particularly evil of them since it forces people that really want or need
to use flash in their browser to use a version with less security patches

man, I hope that the community will find a way to unfuck the plugin when that happens

having flashes to download to temp folder and auto open them with the projector.exe means that
when clicking on the name of an swf a new window with that flash opens
I think that's an acceptable compromise that will work regardless

  That's cartoonishly evil
There is no way they actually did that
is that a rumor? something somebody found in the code? small print?

some anon tried it out and set his system clock after 2020
posted some screenshots, there is an error symbol similar to what browsers show when you haven't
activated running flash on one specifc site
when you click on it it forwards to the EOL site from adobe
fortunately the projector exe seems unaffected

Adobe has already stated that all plugins (past some unknown time after 2017) are time-bombed,
and the various projectors are all safe.

On one hand, it just reads the clock, all you'd need to do is to change the date on your device..
On the other hand, this is really freaky. There is no way in hell they were legally obligated to
go that far, what is even the purpouse of doing that?!
So in the end... adobe really fid buy flash just to kill it, huh?

>> [_] Anonymous 09/24/20(Thu)02:52:45 No.3440676

  >>3440675
  >all you'd need to do is to change the date on your device..
And screw up every other program running? That's not a viable option.

Maybe someone could write a program that tricks only the flash plugin into thinking it's still
2020 (should still use todays date and month though since some swfs use the day/month to change
the swf so it would be a pity to freeze it on a specific day).

But yeah, Adobe is cartoonishly evil. Hopefully they at least have some secret registry setting
that you can change to un-brick the plugin. I mean bricking flash without any way to un-brick it
could be dangerous, who know what it has been used for and may still be a critical part of.

There's the newgrounds player that seems to function nearly identically to the normal adobe
external player with minor cosmetic changes. I'm unaware of anything else being developed by him
  and his team.

doesn't that one only work on newgrounds?

i think it's suspicious because the install page where you get that "player" doesn't explain much
  about how it works

>> [_] Anonymous 09/24/20(Thu)10:58:32 No.3440714

  >>3440712
Yeah it only works on newgrounds for some reason. I've tried using it with other flash files but
it doesn't work for some reason.

I agree it's suspect but I seriously doubt Tom Fulp would purposely fuck over his users.

I have no idea why from a technical standpoint it would only work for newgrounds, the practical
reason my be because it is still in testing and in beta, and they do not want to advertize
something for the whole net without it being just right.
I imagine they are shooting in the dark as to what was in the code there, because the original is
  encrypted.

>> [_] Anonymous 09/24/20(Thu)11:10:32 No.3440716

  That would make sense actually.
  >I imagine they are shooting in the dark as to what was in the code there, because the original

I will never not be mad at adobe for not open sourcing flash/flash player after it dies. They
literally don't have an excuse outside of being evil.

i'm guessing they play the flash offline using adobe's plugin but are doing some kind of browser
hacking to force it to be displayed inside the browser.
if so it is even weirder that it only works on newgrounds, although i guess maybe the site needs
to use some special html that helps in the hacking. i really wish they would just explain exactly
  what their "player" is doing.

It doesn't even do that unless it updated recently and I'm just unaware. Last time I used it, it
was functionally identical to an external player.

what is "the original" referring to? their player or adobe's plugin or what?
i hope you're not saying they are building their player on top of some mysterious encrypted code

it opens an external player when you visit the web page with a swf file? then what's the point,
they might as well just provide a download link so you can open it in adobe's player

He would be referring to adobe's flash player as it's proprietary software. The newgrounds team
can't legally reverse engineer it without winning a court battle with adobe due to their
  draconian flash player license agreement.
  see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnash_(software)#Adobe_Flash_Player_End-User_License_Agreement
  >One problem for the project is the difficulty of finding developers. The current developers have
never installed Adobe's Flash player, because they fear that anyone who has ever installed the
Adobe Flash Player has at the same time accepted an agreement not to modify or reverse engineer
  Flash player.
  >>3440721
I guess the theory would be that it would be more heavily sandboxed than adobe's player but idk.

well, it's not like dobe just "happened" to end support becuase flash is old, or not needed
anymore, or becaus there are better options
they just agve into google's demands of completely ridding such a thing off the face of the earth
  why?
because it is powerful, easy, good
they don't want people oti to just have that agency
"not needing youtube to share a thing to watch? not on our watch"
"thousands of free to play click to start online games? you gotta be joking"

of course when you purge a format from being used you won't just hand it to the very people you
are trying to keep it from

In the end, tom fulp has access to his own site
There is a chance that certain communications have to be made between the site itself and the

It's probably no coincidence when apple blocked flash either. It was around the same time they
released the Iphone. Simple software, games, and movies, being playable online and offline and
there being a really simple program to make it with a million of tutorials renders the app method
  obsolete.
Try and find today a software that lets you make with ease video integrated exe's. let alone one
  that plays them.
