couple years.

Back in 05 moot said he was going to Mexico or something and posted this picture of a random dude
standing next to a stone statue and, for a while, people thought that was moot.

From what I have been able to puzzle together it was all based on a joke he made after collecting
donations for keeping 4chan online, maybe in 2003? I bet it was a casual "haha im going to
mexico, so long suckers" on IRC or something.
Most likely the knowyourmeme site has full details about it.

Hm knowyourmeme doesn't actually have info on mootxico, but I checked archived pages on
encyclopediadramatica and the lurkmore wiki. The meme has its origins in the 2005 DONATE OR DIE
fundraiser by moot where he tried collecting 20k USD in a week but "only" got 11k. I guess it was
just some Anon that started the rumor about moot escaping to Mexico with the money and using that
random photo of some guy (pictured in the flash), pretending that he was moot.
