[_] Videos now work in ruffle! Anonymous 03/20/21(Sat)12:02:02 No.3462032
I couldn't find any information about it in the release notes, but videos seems to work in ruffle
now. Maybe this has been the case for a while, but I just noticed now.
Marked for deletion (old).

4chan is using a special build of ruffle. Probably the same as on z0r. Right-click ruffle on
4chan and you'll see they call the version "yotsuba 2021-03-20", do the same on z0r.de and the
version is "z0r special edition". You can see the real 2021-03-20 version of Ruffle on swfchan
and it still doesn't have video support. You can read more about torokati44's video efforts here:
https://github.com/ruffle-rs/ruffle/pull/3004
I've been waiting patiently for 7 weeks now and it still haven't been merged. I hope a lot of
work is happening in the background of the main Ruffle git because the nightly build notes
haven't exactly been awe-inspiring. I've always known Ruffle progress would be slow but it feels
bad to see that "it works"-tier video support has existed for almost 2 months now and still isn't
officially part of Ruffle.

I hope so. I hope they are actually doing something maybe on their discord because there hasn't
bit any progress in months on github. 99% of commits and just dependency updates and
"refactoring" while tons of crucial features are still missing.

z0r's version is probably just the video pull request merged in.
The version on 4chan can almost play 720p videos.
Like this here >>3462039 almost plays perfectly in sync (in Chrome at least) but the pull request
from github lags on anything larger than 300x300 pixels.

>gnu gnash
Why isnt anyone talking about this? It can play anything thats non-interactive(e.g. videos and
music) perfectly, and its relatively good at not-so complex interactive stuff(e.g. games). I'm
pretty sure that a lot of the code in it would benefit ruffle a lot. Idk about you, but I'm
having a better experience playing .swf files and links in gnu gnash compared to ruffle

If it's GNU then Ruffle can't use it.

where did you try this and can you link directly to where you got it from?
i doubt 4chan dev have put efforts into developing their own variant of ruffle with better video
capabilities, other than swapping out the version string to say "yotsuba".
would be nice if you would talk to us mr 4chan dev btw, i know you're reading this. we don't have
enough activity on /f/ for you to miss this discussion.

how inept can you be to not be able to get flash running in the current year, needing to wade
through coming decades of dev bullshit instead of valueing what we already got? what did bring us

anything other than "Flash".

You have to build that video branch from github yourself.
You can also try z0r's version directly on their site with a bit of hackery:
Go on any of zor's flash pages and paste the code from here: https://pastebin.com/fVvxYvGz
into the dev tools console (F12).
Close the console afterwards and pick a local SWF file to play.
Bigass videos like >>3462039 will be completely out of sync with the audio because the decoder
can't keep up.
Even this small loop is lagging >>3462036

it's regrettable anon, I get you
adobe is one major motherfucker for making you go through hoops to get your daily doses, but
that's reality for you
/f/ has been a kind of gated peer group of guys who aren't just braindead shitposting monkeys for
the longest time now
I guess this just removes your average phoneposter from the premises
flash used to be about inclusivity and ready content
now it's a kind of holy grail of an era gone by only enjoyed by the chosen few who can install 1
browser and put 1 file in 1 folder, fukken magic these days

I felt like this all day yesterday, except I might not be one of the chosen few. I spent so much
time chasing a way to enjoy flash on a browser again that I eventually downloaded an older
version of Chrome just to do it. Alas, I'm almost there, but then the words "download failed"
show up and says fuck you to me. I tried correcting even that, but a sigh of relief is always
followed by frustration, and I hate the feeling so much.

Then don't do it. /f/ was always a slow and niche board.
There's nothing easier than using Adobe's standalone player to open files Ruffle can't read. It's
a billion times more sensible AND safer than trying to install old repacked browsers and plugins.
>>3462121
Don't think so highly of yourself since you are exactly the braindead shitposting monkey you

pretty cool stuff
Have been wondering tho, maybe an older version of portableapps' chrome will work as ready made

>files Ruffle can't read
so all of them?
>It's a billion times more sensible
not really, but if you make thinking you need to download every file easier for you that way,
then suit yourself
flash is as secure as it has been for the longest time and won't really get any more "insecure",
because nobody bothers to inject in it anymore, obviously because nobody uses flash anymore
ironically
if you're at least moderate sensible with how you run flash on which websites, you'll never get
malware in your lifetime from using the latest released plugins for literally ever
I'm with you on older browser though, don't do it
trust me google chrome isn't the end all of modern web browsers
I've been using an old version of firefox out of spite too, until it just wasn't doing it anymore
in these modern ages of WebComponent bullshit
now I switched to palemoon with the impending end of flash support and it's all and everything
I've been trying to achieve with my old firefox anyway
it's just like someone knew what I was fighting agains with modern firefox bullshit and made it
work in the modern day, plugins addons and everything
really, flash still working like in the golden days was just the strawberry on top
>Don't think so highly of yourself since you are exactly the braindead shitposting monkey you

trust me, I'd love nothing more than the slow and peaceful /f/ days with 0 replies, but I am
ALWAYS just replying to some anon either complaining or marveling about how ruffle does this or
something other and how everything goes to shit
and I won't just let it stand that flash gets bashed undeservedly on this very flash internet
chanboard
I just don't like people trying to make it sound like ruffle is what keeps the board running now
instead of good old flash
