By now viewership had tailed off on flash sites meaning there wasn't really anywhere to return to. If you were well established enough you could setup a Patreon but barring this there hasn't been a good outlet to new animators (...maybe instagram ...maybe) for a long time. As much as everyone loves to hate on tik tok I sort of hope that short form video platform end up being a more hospitable environment for animation. That being said we're probably not far of full AI automation in the field so that's cool too. For all the doom and gloom I'm glad there are still people going at it, even people who never stopped: Harry partridge, Max Gilardi, film cow. All still going & making some of their best work. >> [_] Anonymous 06/23/22(Thu)18:45:37 No.3484521 >>3484518 always hated google for wanting youtube to change so it was like netflix, instead of embracing what it actually was. my hatred grew when they started to cater to advertisers making unreasonable demands about "family friendliness" instead of just giving them the finger and pointed out the hypocrisy since they run ads on TV in the middle of all kinds of non-family friendly shit. advertisers would have bent quickly, was cocacola going to NOT show ads to young people that don't watch TV? never. now youtube is full with grown up men speaking as if their audience is only children and it drives me mad how everybody is handling everything with mittens to cater google's mystical demands that they don't even clearly state. not to mention the selective rule enforcement. now youtube is panicking because tiktok is putting them at risk to be a has-been platform in 10 years and it's their own god damn fault for continuing to push people away. lately youtube have even started to have "short videos" in tiktok style without a seekbar but that's not going to work. people didn't come to youtube expecting netflix and people don't come to youtube expecting tiktok. they are yet again not embracing what they are actually supposed to be. i'd celebrate tiktok killing youtube if it wasn't for the fact that it gives FAR too much power to communist china to influence western kids. kids in china are not shown the same drivel that are weakening and fracturing our kids. plus the whole mapping of interests of an entire generation that will grow up to be in positions of power one day. >> [_] Anonymous 06/23/22(Thu)19:17:29 No.3484522 >>3484521 Competition with tiktok might be the only thing that can raise standards for creators now, situation isn't good by any means but you have to find hope where you can in this timeline. RIP in peace Vine, you were too good for this world. >> [_] Anonymous 06/24/22(Fri)08:15:41 No.3484560 I still think it's stupid to herald youtube as the goto platform for simple video content. You can wail and whine all you want, but it might just be beyond repair. Instead you can just create a new site, and fuel it with the masses that are dissatisfied with youtube and google. No censorship, nothing. But people won't do that. People aren't to just hop a single URL to the left to literally solve all their problems. Sure it'll take a while until servers are as stable as something google puts out. But still. Being so fixated on youtube and youtube only, when it's just one fish in the water is so stupid. It's like people don't even know what a monopoly is. Think from the point of an independent video creator. Is it really worse to upload your content as intended to a site and get no money for it, instead of fighting with google for an eternity and maybe still get no money as you are drowned in produced TV style content? Youtube started out as a site where small people posted random shit they liked. That's what made it great, what made it what it is today. But today it no longer is that. So we move on to the new "real youtube". Why can't people understand that? It happened so many times. Why this blind brand loyalty to a name in an URL bar that you actually hate. Because money? Yeah it's alway because BEEEEEEEQ MOOOOONIES (maybe™). >> [_] Anonymous 06/24/22(Fri)19:54:29 No.3484587 >>3484560 there are hundreds of youtube competitors out there but it will take a very long time for people to stop only search on youtube for a video. personally i only search for videos using the "video" tab on duckduckgo because then there's at least a chance you will get non-youtube results. example: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=roll&iar=videos&iax=videos&ia=videos best youtube competitor right now is odysee.com but it has a looooong way to go before it will steal away users that want to make ad money of their videos. the "decentralized/crypto angle" of odysee has failed and it is centralized, but that's fine since it is still at least competition. here's why i say odysee is the leading competitor: https://lbrynomics.com/ bitchute is awful because they are based in UK and censor videos outside of US ip numbers |
