The blender video editor is kinda shitty, so instead of using that I animated a sequence of image planes like a pseudo-film strip behind the drawing. I rendered out three separate render passes (blurred background (done with compositor), normal background, coomer) with an orthographic camera (that removes the 3D perspective) and combined them in the Compositor to export an uncompressed video. I then used ffmpeg to convert the uncompressed video into swf format. I attached a screenshot of what my blender scene looks like. I assume what I did was way harder than then using flash to animate (which I never have), but I was specifically trying to use Blender for everything I could as a learning exercise.
