i'm finally old enough to reminisce on my simpler childhood years without cringing at how much of

i still feel that the dices are not random, i tend to fail a ton in the late game, even playing
defensive (so i have the tie advantage)

It just feels that way because you're playing defensively.
When you don't rely on luck for your victories there aren't gonna be very many upsets in your
favor, since you are purposefully avoiding the situations where that would happen.
Also battles during your opponent's turns are so fast it can be hard to notice when their
attacking 8 dice looses to 7 or 6 dice. Meanwhile you're always aware of the details of your
attacks because they're slower.
