Though not wholly deciding for us, algorithms give suggestions, affect the top result of search engines, product listing order and other currently minute stuff like that. This has a cumulative influence but it's goal is more or less wholly capitalistic -- just attempting to get the most money for the owners by getting you to buy something or stay longer. Hell, remember that article from Safeway where some father found out his daughter was pregnant just based on her shopping habits (that were recorded in a membership account).

If there's anything people should be worrying about, it should be being able to use technology responsibly. AI is only as good as how it has been developed and/or trained
