the schroedinger's cat thing isn't about a dead or alive cat, it was his response to an idea he
found foolish put forth in the early days of quantum theory that it didn't matter what individual
subatomic particles did when you dealt with large numbers, that they were in probabilistic
states. in the thought experiment, a sensor sensitive enough to detect a single particle decaying
would be hooked up to a device that would poison a cat in a box if a single radon particle
decayed. reasoning at the time could be deduced to say that any subatomic particle at any time
would be both states (non-decayed and decayed) unless it was observed (at which point it would
suddenly assume one of the two states), therefore the cat in the box would be both dead and alive
until observed. people have taken it to be a proof of the concept where schroedinger was pointing
out how foolish such a concept was.

Oooooh, I now have so much more respect for him now. Sarcasm doesn't always carry well over the
  years, apparently.

this is also one of the key reasons people have trouble actually understanding quantum physics
today, that they assume that it's supposed to be weird.
this is one thing that hasn't been proven or disproven yet: the rate of time for a particle
traveling at light speed is zero. also, extrapolating from that, the edge of the universe, which
is the original light not captured by gravity at the point after the cosmic egg broke (if this
ever actually happened) and the energy had cooled down enough to form the minor subatomic
particles is still as new as it was at that point.

No. It's a simply loop with music.
