Anyone know of some games where you are a Japanese high school student and you fight other school
students or something like that?

Pretty much every Kunio-kun game has what you are looking for, only downside is most of them have
not been ported outside of Japan while the rest had localization changes (Example: River City
Ransom) However, the romhacking community translated some of those games.
Also give Rival Schools for the playstation a try.

Because you're playing green or purple. If you want small numbers of hard-hitting guys, play
yellow.
Winning with green involves capturing LOTS of spade squares and never sending fewer than three
dudes against any one enemy. Kill yellow first, because you'll hit your unit cap with the army
size needed to kill two or three of them.

in the full game green is best
the map and population limit are bigger so if the others dont grab the spades away from green
then in the end green just overwhelms everyone with numbers
