Why do people like this game? It's pretty shitty. The lack of any sort of physics makes it
horrible to play, there's no skill involved besides timing jumps right.

The game is a masterpiece because despite it's simple nature, it's still surprising and difficult
in areas. The same could be said of a lot of games really. "There's no skill involved except X"
where X can be "aiming your shots" or "picking the right abilities" or "grinding a lot". The
genius here is in the level design. It shows us that even if the graphics are hokey and old
school, great level design and aesthetic choices from the music to the art direction can do a lot
for a game.
