Seeing the ending though, I think it's the former. The images you see are of a town. It's kind of
polluted, but overall good. You also see what looks to be some sort of deformed, skeletal
fetus-monster whose maw you have to enter to end it. You see a nuclear shelter, with missiles and
a global command center. And then you see.....fragments. Of earth? Possibly. Probably. And then,
realizing what you've done, you plunge yourself into the sun.
