People making the show guessed that because new games came out, the show had to move towards the

After finding the people liked Brock because he grounded the show as a pervert and general
lolcow, they brought him back and began to play a game of round robin with several female
protagonists.
Also, for some ungodly reason, Ash ditched his superpowered Charizard and most other Pokemon
because he didn't want to cheat the challenge of a new area - nice job neglecting your old
"friends."
