Apparently the flash reads your systems clock and adjusts the scenes day/night light levels
accordingly.
While this isn't new this was first actually used in a flash game from Baddogstudios to control
which characters would appear where.
HTH studios effectively did the same thing but made it so that there is visable change from day
to night, increased the frequency of the scene changes to minute by minute, and supposedly this
would allow him to update without having to pull content from the site.
...If he ever wanted to.

It's because the tail was rendered in 3D, probably swift or some other 3D to vector program, and
then imported in... that's why the texture looks different and the animation so much smoother.
