Bear with me for a sec.
Two years ago, Metroid Other M was released. In it, they attempted to explain Samus's reactions
to all the emotional trauma that's happened in her past. This produced several cut-scenes during
which she monologued to the camera. Unfortunately, she came off sounding whiny and co-dependent.
The game industry attempted to justify this, saying that up until now, she hadn't been given a
voice, and so any personality they gave her would be an improvement.
Anyone who said that should have this video stuffed down their ear canals on a 5-hour loop.

I have to agree.. There have been many a silent protagonist that had extravagant amounts of
character and personality. Samus had her own long before Other M.
