for points you can fail the true ending:
Get big key before you have golden apple, fry egg before you have hourglass, kill the fairy being
attacked by slimes. Leave with first princess.
Actually I'm not sure if you need both of the rings to open the last door.
The mirror is needed for defeating cockatrice, the monster that drops the egg (partially medusa
reference I think, since cockatrices petrified by touch iirc)
The hammer is needed to break the cockatrice egg before frying it.

press "d" on your keyboard to get to the frist screen with an old man after you upgrade your
sword to the red one.
to get the red sword you have to save the fairy and then get the flask and slash one of the old
men to turn that flask into red potion, then bring it to the saved fairy.
