Like the plot or the general idea?
The general idea is that it's little girls shootan each other with one hundred bullets per second.
The plot is that it's a Shrine maiden shootan demons with one thousand bullets per second because
they're doing bad things.
The draw is that it's little girls shootan each other other with one million bullets per second
with awesome music and cute character design. While the characters have a bit of personality on
their own, there's enough left unexplained, with the creator giving the fans as much creative
freedom as they want, that most of the popularity of Touhou comes from the fan works, of which
there is an infinite amount.

Dear god...I love this. Well made flash.
I enjoy the original, preferably in Japanese...But this is damn good. Always did love 8-bit music.
