It's simple, it locates where it isn't and uses range with where it is to decide where it'll be

It's pretty easy .. it corrects its course to where it should be headed by calculating the
current course from where it was and where it is and if the course if wrong, it corrects itself
by the variation of where it is and where it will/should be :)
