No, but radiation from the blast would travel a good distance. A place 400 miles away would be
able to detect the radiation, but it would be miniscule.

Actually the most dangerous part of any nuclear weapon is the concussive blast. If you're close
enough, the initial explosion, and the heat it throws off is bad news bears too. The rest of it
really is just proper education. If you know how to avoid exposure to the radiation (EG: don't
drink ground water, don't breath air that isn't drawn through some sort of filtration system, and
so on) that ensues afterwards you're fine. Its literally forms of radiation that don't have an
effective means of penetrating your skin, so you have to physically breath it in, or consume it
for it to become a problem.
Obviously this only functions as a short term solution though.
