The trees are there exactly for that. It would be easy otherwise.
I suggest using the grenade launcher or W+A/D to either go straight through the trees or shoot
over them.

I prefer the trees to extra, faster or healthier enemies. Trees are entirely new mechanics, with
quite a bit of interesting proprieties, while fortifying the enemies would just make things
harder through, if you'll allow the buzzwords, artificial difficulty.
Honestly, the trees also help a lot. It'd be hard to direct those bouncy grenades around if it
weren't for the trees, which slow them down just on the measure you let them.
However, I do agree that there should be a way to shoot them down and they shouldn't block as
many shots as they do. Maybe some sort of leaf health so that their blocking decreases as they
are shot?
